Our customer has conveyance equipment that depends on the maintenance of bearing to move feedstock. This customer has no way to divert the feed to keep the plant running. If these conveyors fail, the plant is down. As a result, the plant needed a way to monitor the health of these bearings and monitor vibration and temperature of each bearing on its conveyance system. Using wireless field devices mounted to each conveyor, Direct Data Management was able to create alarming algorithms that will let plant personnel know when a bearing temp and/or vibration indicate an imminent failure. Due to the historical backfilling capability of the Direct Data’s system, previous failures were analyzed and used to generate the conditional alarms. Our customer is currently using these alarms and trends to make decisions on when bearings are near failure.
